SFGG Top OMBAC, Move Into Second

The SFGG Rhinos did exactly what they needed to in order to move into Grand Final contention with a 31-10 win over OMBAC at Treasure Island. Had OMBAC been able to beat SFGG it would have sealed a playoff spot for the club while eliminating SFGG. Now things are more muddy, especially with SFGG having to face Glendale mid-week in a weather make-up match. If SFGG fall in that match, which is their final match of the season, it will provide an opening for OMBAC to leapfrog them in the standings should they beat Belmont Shore next weekend.

OMBAC were the first to score as in-form Zach Pangelinan scored and converted. That would soon by answered by last season’s MVP Pila Huihui scoring a try of his own. When healthy Huihui has been a major asset for SFGG this year. Tai Enosa would score the conversion to tie the match at 7-7.

The deadlock would be broken with five minutes to go before the end of the half when Brendan Daly added a try to make it 14-7. Pangelinan would make the deficit four at the half with a penalty.

In the second half it was SFGG that ran away with the match. Enosa would match Pangelinan’s penalty and then tries from Travis Benson and Adrian Curry would put the match away.

In the end it was a perfect scenario for SFGG as they took out the maximum points while OMBAC took home none.
