SFGG have earned a spot in the playoffs with a resounding 49-5 win over Belmont Shore at Treasure Island on Saturday. Both teams had a shot at the playoffs entering the weekend and if Belmont Shore beat SFGG and kept SFGG from earning bonus points the playoff spot would have been theirs. Instead, SFGG played one of their best matches all season to set up a re-match with the Glendale Raptors.
Belmont Shore’s only scoring of the match came four minutes in when Peter Sio scored an unconverted try. However, Mile Pulu (twice), Pila Huihui, and Opeti Okusi would all score tries to go along with a penalty from Volney Rouse to make it 29-5 at halftime. The second half was even more SFGG with two more penalties from Rouse and another try from Pila Huihui. Samisoni Pone put the final touches on the match late.
SFGG have to be pleased with the way they not only played in this match when the stakes were high but also they way they have been playing for the last few weeks. Like last season they are peaking at the right time and will pose a challenge for Glendale. For Belmont it’s a disappointing way to end the season after putting themselves in a great position.
