Even though both the Denver Barbarians and Olympic Club are out of the playoff chase both played a very entertaining match on Saturday at Treasure Island. Denver went into the match not wanting to finish below .500 on the season while Olympic Club were searching to get off the bottom of the table. In the end it was Denver that would prevail 32-17.

Each team has it’s core of solid players and they were all on display on Saturday. Denver’s Justin Pauga was the first to get things started with a try and Max De Achaval conversion just over ten minutes in before Dustin Muhn and John Gallo would combine to equalize for Olympic Club just a few minutes later.

The match would turn decidedly in Denver’s favor the rest of the way as two tries from Brendan Shea, converted by De Achaval, would give Denver a 21-7 lead at the break. Muhn would score his second just a minute into the second half and then Andrew Cook would score to bring the score to 21-17 but two penalty kicks from De Achaval and a final try from Nicholas Virgil sealed the match for Denver.

The Barbarians will play rivals Glendale next week while Olympic Club face Belmont Shore.
