Santa Monica Dolphins were treated to a pre season surprise when former Australian dual International Timana Tahu stopped by to run a special guest defensive session.
Tahu, now 35, represented Australia in Rugby League between 2002 and 2006, and then the Waratahs and Wallabies from 2008 – 2009 before returning to Rugby League and retiring in 2014.
When news of Timana’s wish to experience coaching rugby in the US hit Los Angeles, Santa Monica Head Coach and Director of Rugby Marc Stcherbina jumped at the opportunity to have Timana address his troops.
“Having a player of Timana’s profile and experience visit our rugby practice was a huge treat for the players” Stcherbina remarked.
“Any time the players hear a voice other than mine is a treat for that matter” he quipped.
Tahu’s coaching plans are unclear at this stage, but he has expressed a desire to explore the possibility of living and working in the US. If he does, be prepared to see his name mentioned more often in American rugby circles.
