Glendale Beat Denver, Clinch Grand Final Spot

Needing only a point to claim a spot in the Grand Final for the third year in a row the Glendale Raptors used a big second half to beat rivals the Denver Barbarians 34-6. The Raptors will now have a chance to defend their title against the SFGG Rhinos next Saturday at Infinity Park.

For the Denver Barbarians the loss concludes a disappointing season that saw them finish at the bottom of the standings with Santa Monica. The Barbarians were hit by injuries this year and call-ups to PRO Rugby. That meant that they weren’t able to go on the same sort of string of wins they accomplished in years past.

One of the difficulties for Glendale over the last two matches, both of which they lost, was scoring. They have been one of the highest scoring teams all year but had fallen off in that category.  Those struggles continued in the first half against Denver even with Dewon Reed scoring a pair of first half tries. Thanks to a penalty from Max De Achaval Denver were within range at 10-3.

De Achaval would add a drop goal in the second half to cut the deficit to four. However, starting with a try from Dustin Croy Glendale were on their way to the win. Zach Fenoglio, Max Statler, and Iniki Fa’amausili finished it off for Glendale.
